So!
I’m looking for the perfect Linux Flavor of Linux for me. Currently, the desktop I like is either GNome or XFCE. Sadly, Ubuntu is still at the top of my list. I’ve downloaded Fedora and tried it, but it boots up slow and seems to hog more resources. I’m still looking at other distributions as well.
Ubuntu – Installed quickly. Provides many packages for further customizations (not just what’s in the repos, but for getting libraries required for compiling other things). Great looking, but I made it look better
Sometimes I feel limited to what is offered.
Fedora – Installed quickly. Provides many packages and stuff. Great looking, but I like to make it feel more for me. Slow upgrading and uses too many resources compared to the other distributions I’ve tried.
Zen – Installed, no progress bar so I don’t know if I should run off to Starbucks or not. It’s taken longer than the other distributions though… Zen wouldn’t boot…
LinuxMint – Has a cool boot screen. It installed pretty quickly. It uses gone, but they’ve made it all windows like or something, slightly duller, but more usable I guess. It’s not as organized as other menus. I guess I’ll have to use it more to see how I feel.
BlagBlagBlag – Didn’t boot up >.<
DreamLinux – Taking too long to install, I’ll try again later.
Foresight – Currently installing… Weird colors… It wasn’t really a user-friendly environment. I kept getting errors about things not installed or installable. I also got compilation errors when I tried to fix things. Not for someone who has little experience.
